Category: Conservatism

Any normal person wants to support those who agree with him.  It's no fun rooting for a team you hate; it's even less fun working for, promoting, and voting for someone whose views are different from yours, or even antithetical to yours.

Conservatives can't, therefore, be happy with the choices they've had over the past 20 years.  The Democratic Party has given us one flaming liberal after another.  The Republican Party has given us one liberal after another.  The only difference between the two parties has been that the Democratic candidates have been flaming liberals, while the Republicans have been liberals but not flaming liberals.

Can anyone who truly holds to conservative convictions be happy with the past 20 years?  I certainly haven't been.

What I would like to challenge everyone to do is this:

     1. Go online and search out various political party platforms.  If you want to look into parties of the libertarian persuasion you may, and if you want to look into the various minor liberal parties you may do so as well.  But mainly look at three platforms - those of the Democratic, Republican, and Constitution Parties (if you'd like, you can of course check out the American Conservative Party's platform as well, and any other conservative platform you might come across).

     2. Take note of which platform agrees with your views on most points.

     3. Consider whether you ought to begin voting for that party.

Why keep voting for people who want to make your values nugatory?  Why support candidates whose policies, if successful, would make your views into a repressed minority?  Why bolster a party which simply doesn't agree with you on more than a few points?

Of course, if you're already supporting a party, and voting for candidates, you can wholeheartedly support, great.  But if you're not, why not?  Can there, ultimately, be any good reason for devoting your time and energy to someone and something that will, if victorious, work against everything you care about?
